Mandar Hill

            A diminutive hill at a distance of 30 km from Bhagalpur is one of the most favorite picnic spots in the region. A part from its location and charming beauty an incredibly large fair held every year on 14th January on the event of Makar Sankarnti. According to Mythological tales the mountain hill was used for churning the ocean to extract the nectar from its bosom (Samudar Manthan). To carry out this process in an eased way, Lord Vishnu rescued the process as a base by taking the form of a turtle ‘Kurma’. You can witness the marks on the snake roughly around the hill used for Mathan. Foot prints of Lord Vishnu present here attract devotees from far and wide.
